Abstract

High Performance Computing solves complex scientific and engineering problems, and increasingly also business and social problems. The paper discusses the evolution of High Performance Cloud Computing services in the light of business model innovation, with emphasis on small and medium-sized enterprises. We analysed 20 experiments carried out in the context of European projects, which promote the use of High Performance Computing. The results showed that the use is expanding from traditional manufacturing companies to a service-oriented industry and that it has an impact on the faster adaptation to consumer requirements, the creation of new products and services and the cooperation forms of the entire business ecosystem. In addition, it contributes to the development and use of artificial intelligence methods, big data processing and the availability of complex computer services for all the stakeholders in the market.
