Abstract

ERP solutions are extensive and complex systems the teaching of which requires the use of innovative methods. Multiple challenges must be addressed to improve the achieved level of knowledge. Among other, participants that meet with ERP systems for the first time, with only a short period allotted for learning, and challenges arising from the teaching of digital generations. Consequently, the use of gamification can significantly contribute to the effectiveness of teaching and consolidation of knowledge. Within the subject ERP systems, we conducted an introductory workshop using the business simulation game, ERPsim. The simulation game runs on SAP ERP, which is one of the most widely used ERP systems. According to the opinions gathered from the two generations of students of informatics and communication technologies, the subject simulation game has a positive impact on initial obstacles while using SAP ERP. An important influence is also reflected in the better understanding of the subsequent curriculum since the students with the introductory workshop have already acquired and consolidated the basic concepts of the SAP ERP in terms of business processes and technical knowledge needed for using ERP systems. The analysis of collected opinions confirmed our expectations that complicated concepts can be introduced more efficiently by using gamification.
