Abstract

Data analytics and big data analytics enable data and evidence based decision-making. In Slovenian public administration, there is still the unutilized potential of digital performance, which is why under the leadership of the Ministry of Public Administration it was decided to conduct the first big data pilot project. The project was executed in cooperation with the international company EMC Dell and aimed to study the possibilities of use of modern data analytics and big data technologies to explore the possibilities for increasing efficiency in the fields of personnel development, public procurement and use of resources. The results of the pilot project are interesting from several aspects, both in the sense of change management implementation, processing and protection of personal data, as well as the possible savings and increase in efficiency in public procurement, use of premises and HR management. The project has been successfully presented at a number of national and international events and conferences, and in turn met with considerable interest and published in the collection of the most innovative public sector cases in OECD (OPSI – Observatory of Public Sector Innovation).
