Abstract

In this article, we present the development of a web application for digitization and automation of annual training plans, which addresses the problem of traditional approaches. The main problem is the lack of individualization, as a trainer needs up to 1 week to prepare a plan for 1 athlete, which with a larger number of athletes leads to the use of generalized plans and increased risk of injuries. We obtained the requirements for developing the application through interviews with trainers from Athletic Club Velenje. In the article, we developed a web application using the design and development strategy and rapid prototyping methodology with Vue.js architecture (frontend), Python Flask (backend), and Oracle autonomous database with PL/SQL packages for business logic. With the system, we successfully implemented over 200 exercises, 23 methods, 5 motor abilities, and a 10-level difficulty scale for adjusting training volume and load. With the application, we created an annual training plan in less than 10 seconds while considering interference effects of motor abilities. We present the first comprehensive approach to digitization of training processes in Slovenia. We identified limitations that include the lack of dynamic adaptation of loads/exercises and advanced analytical functionalities using artificial intelligence methods, which represents an opportunity for further development.
