Starting in 2019, Slovenian small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) can apply for tenders for digitization vouchers, with the help of which they can obtain the necessary funds for digital transformation. The purpose of the paper is to determine the importance of vouchers for the digitalization for Slovenian SMEs and to propose improvements to the system that key decision-makers can use when drawing up further co-financing schemes. Based on interviews with representatives of fourteen Slovenian SMEs, three external contractors and a representative of the DIHS, we have formulated five proposals for improving the vouchers for the digitalization system: less documentation, greater transparency, changing the level of co-financing according to additional factors, updating the approval criteria, and updating the voucher for digital marketing.
