Abstract

The paper presents the modern challenges of distance education based on interdisciplinary connections and innovative learning environments. We focus on the student, who thinks and researches independently and, within the framework of active methods, interconnects knowledge, giving it meaning and depth.

The interdisciplinary approach is an important element of modern views on the educational process as it represents the in-depth and systematic planning of learning which is used to connect content, processes, and conceptual knowledge. It enforces the horizontal and vertical integration of content, knowledge and learning skills that are used to handle content holistically, exposed from different aspects and from different subject areas. The interdisciplinary approach is particularly important in distance learning where it is necessary to rationalize the learning content and motivate students for independent and critical work.

Innovative learning environments supported by information and communication technology represent the context within which learning takes place in line with modern guidelines on didactics. It enables integrated learning, individualization and personalization of the learning process. In distance education, an innovative environment is one that can respond to the development and changes in educational practice through continuous development and adaptation.
